York Area Chamber of Commerce - Updates
Bring your Convention Home!!

Bring Your Convention Home!

With the addition of the new HOLTHUS CONVENTION CENTER,  York will soon be able to attract larger meetings, conventions, trade shows, exhibits and receptions to town. When more delegates come to town, they tend to spend a lot of money—so the more conventions we can get to come to York, the better for all of us.

How can you help?   Many of us belong to associations, clubs and groups who meet at conventions. If you can provide some basic information to us on your group—we’ll take it from there. We’ll make the contact and hopefully negotiate a meeting or convention to come to town—whether it’s at the new center or one of our existing facilities.  Best of all, you could win $100.00 in Chamber Checks for your efforts. We will randomly select someone who gave us a lead for a convention—whether that convention came to town or not…to win $100.00 in Chamber Checks---just for your efforts. Take a moment to fill out the simple form and submit it to The York Chamber.  THANK YOU!!

Holthus Convention Center coming soon!

Over the next year, a new $6 million dollar Convention Center will be built to accommodate meetings, conventions, trade shows, receptions and weddings of most size right here in York.  The new HOLTHUS CONVENTION CENTER is scheduled to open late summer of 2014.  Located near the busy I-80/Highway 81 exchange, the new center will be within 5 blocks of over 600 hotel rooms.  The Chamber of Commerce will serve as the sales contact to book meetings, conventions, weddings and trade shows for the new center.  A new YORK COUNTY MEETING PLANNERS GUIDE is being developed that will showcase ALL of York County's meeting facilities.

Our new York NEBRASKA Chamber Membership directories are here!!  They turned out great thanks in part to MANY advertisers who helped keep our printing costs down.  We will be sending a copy to each of our members--but if you need multiple copies--stop down.  Everyone who buys a Chamber Check gets a copy to see where they can spend them!

Farmers Market plans underway

The 2013 York Farmers’ Market is coming!  If you are interested in being a vendor at the Farmers’ Market, there are some new rules for 2013.

Time/Location/Season: Once again, the York Farmers’ Market will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:00 pm on the grounds of the York County Courthouse located between Grant and Lincoln Avenues on 6th Street in downtown York. The core season is June6th through September 5th (Yorkfest). Vendors who chose to have a booth after the core season to sell Fall produce may do so on a first-come, first serve basis up to October 10th. NEW FOR 2013…we are experimenting with a NEW Saturday Morning Farmers Market once a month (third Saturday of June, July, August and September) to see if there is an audience for Saturday mornings from 8:00-10:00 am. As a vendor  you can choose to do Thursday evenings and/or Saturday mornings.

Fees: Booth spaces at the Farmers Market are 10X10’. There are 22 spaces along 6th street reserved for SEASONAL PARTICIPANTS. The fee includes one parking space for every booth rented.  Other spaces at the Market are rented on a weekly basis and does NOT include a parking space. Electricity is available for a small additional fee. The 2013 Rates are:

Thursday Seasonal:        $50.00/year

Thursday weekly:            $ 5.00/week

Saturday Seasonal:        $10.00/year

Saturday weekly:             $ 5.00/week

TH & SA Seasonal:          $60.00/year

Electricity Seasonal:       $20.00/year

Electricity Weekly:          $ 2.00/week

Chamber of Commerce Members: Current members of the York Chamber of Commerce will be provided booth space at no charge, but you must register as a seasonal or weekly vendor. The fee for electrical service will apply. Vendors who are current Chamber of Commerce members CAN accept Chamber Checks as payment for their product. The Chamber will provide appropriate signage for your booth if needed.

Booth Assignments: Booth assignments are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The spaces along 6th street in front of the Courthouse are reserved for those buying the whole season.  Vendors are responsible for providing their own tables and chairs. Tents are permissible as long as they are confined to the 10X10’ area and not blocking traffic. You may rent multiple spaces provided you pay for the extra space.

Product Guidelines: The Chamber of Commerce has determined that only handmade, homemade or homegrown products will be sold at the York Farmers’ Market. No live animals are to be sold. Vendors selling nonfood items, concession type food items and hot or cold drinks are responsible for collection of sales tax and reporting and paying sales tax to the State of Nebraska. The York Chamber of Commerce is not responsible for policing or enforcing the collection of sales tax. If you would like to sell baked goods, it is recommended that you include the following on each package label: name of product, your name or business name/contact information, price of product (such as 3 cookies for $2.00 or cookies-$2.00 per pound) and a list of ingredients. You must have signage at your booth indicating whether your baked goods were prepared in a licensed kitchen or not. This needs to be visible at your booth at all times. If you have products that need to be kept cold, make sure you bring the appropriate materials to keep foods cold (40 degrees and below) so they are not sitting in standing water (make sure your coolers have drain holes). The Health Inspector makes a couple of visits each summer and will issue citations if guidelines are not followed. Multiple violations will result in that vendor being removed from the Farmers Market without registration refund.

Set-Up/Parking: There will be “NO PARKING” signs placed along the south side of 6th street between Grant and Lincoln Avenues requesting
cars be moved by 4:00 pm. These parking spaces are for those vendors assigned to those spaces (all seasonal vendors). The north side of 6th
street is for customers of the businesses along that side of the street and Farmers’ Market customers. You may use the Sheriff’s parking lot off of Grant Avenue to load and unload, but cars must be moved as soon as you are finished. There is plenty of parking around the town square for vendors. We do ask that you do not park on the north side of 6th street. ALL VENDORS SHOULD BE SET UP AND READY TO SELL BY 5:00 PM (or 8:00 am for the Saturday market). NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO MAKE ANY SALES BEFORE 5:00 PM (or 8am). This policy is in place to give all vendors an equal chance of setting up. The Farmers’ Market committee will announce when it is 5:00 pm (or 8am). The Market goes until 7:00 pm (or 10:00am), however, if you choose to stay longer, that is fine.

Questions:   If you have questions about the Farmers’ Market, contact:
