The York Community has always been regarded as a safe community for families at all stages of life. The ability to stroll casually to the park and bike ride to a friend’s house are a very attractive feature York has to offer. Another key component to good quality of life is having the resources available to residents during a time of crisis. Here in York, we are fortunate to have agencies that are geared to help those in need.
Hope Crisis Center is a non-profit organization committed to empowering victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as our communities through advocacy, education and confidential emergency services. Hope Crisis Center provides services in Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline, Seward, Thayer, and York counties in Southeast Nebraska. The service area is rural and totals 4,305 square miles with a population of 88,952.
Hope Crisis Center has been helping families rebuild their lives free from violence since 1992 as a branch of Blue Valley Community Action. Seeing a steady need for domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, Hope Crisis Center became an independent organization in 2006; opening their first office location in Fairbury, Ne. Since 2006, Hope Crisis Center has opened 4 more offices within their services areas, one of which resides in York, Ne.
Because domestic violence and sexual assault continue to remain taboo subjects in our society, they would like the citizens of York to know there is a safe place in their community to disclose domestic violence and sexual assault where they will be safe, heard and believed. The Hope Crisis Center Satellite office in York offers a plethora of advocacy services in a welcoming and confidential facility given by their advocate, Kylee.
As an agency they constantly strive to shed positive light on all they do and can provide. It is their hope for the future that they can continue to bring awareness of their organization to the community of York and the amazing work they do for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Hope Crisis Center supports a 24-hour, 7 days per week crisis line, one-on-one advocacy, temporary shelter, emergency assistance, legal advocacy, medial advocacy, information and referrals, and community education. If you or someone you know is in need of an advocate’s assistance in relation to domestic violence/sexual assault please call our crisis line at 1-877-388-HOPE (4673) where an advocate is available 24-hours, 7 days a week.
